This is Earth as we know it, so comfortingly familiar.

The only spot in our universe known to foster life. Third planet of eight from the sun. 5.9 sextillion tons of rock with a thin layer of water insulated by a blanket of gasses and a magnetic field. 24 hours in every rotation around its axis, 365 rotations in one revolution around the sun. Entering the second decade of the second millennium of the common era of history.

There’s a lot happening on this lumpy rock. Some of it beautiful: Polar auroras, glittering beaches, rainbows painted in the sky and in the flora and fauna, music, compassion and love. Some of it terrible, mostly our fault: climate change, violent conflicts, excessive inequality, and hateful bigotry.

This is the reality we know and grudgingly trust. Because it’s all we know.

But what if everything we know about reality is wrong? If you saw the truth, would you accept it or deny it?

This is Earth as you don’t know it, but you’re about to.

Earth is the fulcrum between an infinite number of alternate universes. The barriers that keep the universes separate are thin here, so thin, in fact, that sometimes they break, and the contents of one universe will bleed over into ours, wreaking havoc, causing mayhem, generally messing things about. They are the thinnest in that metropolitan area we know as New York City for reasons no one knows. Why haven’t you heard about any of this? The Bureau of Interdimensional Activity – The Bureau or IBA, take your pick – has been keeping the truth under wraps. Haven't heard of The Bureau? Good, that means they're doing their job. It is their job to clean up the mess, return order to chaos, and make sure no one remembers what happened. Can’t have the truth getting out, can we?

But things have changed beyond The Bureau’s control.

It starts with an event. You’re going about your average day – work, school, binge watching your favorite show – when you get a flash, a snippet of another life, it feels like you’re completely transported into this other life. You relive a memory from a past life. It feels as rich and vibrant as any of your memories from here on Earth.

In truth, that brief scene you just lived out, it was one your memories from another life, only, you didn’t go to it, it came to you, here on Earth. And it disrupted about a city block size area around you. Don’t worry, The Bureau will be there the moment you come back to yourself to clean things up, put everything back in order, and try to erase everyone’s memory of the event. But notice that try - see, all the other people in the area will be affected, but it won’t work on you. And that makes you one of the Different.

Don’t worry, only the first memory hits you like this, all the others come to you with less force and less destruction – they will come back to you in dreams.

But now The Bureau doesn’t know what to do with you, or others like you: people who have these memories from other lives. Their methods of memory erasure don't work on you anymore. For now, they'll just keep an eye on you, all of you. That means you now see all the ways the alternate universes bleed over into this universe. And there’s so much more in store for you…
